Kalusha's Cavies

Specialist Breeder of Lunkarya & Peruvians

                                 Breeding Schedule

Here I show my planned matings. All planned matings are subject to change depending on condition and what excess babies I may still have.  (Please remember that due to the dense undercoat of the Lunkarya, it is NOT advised to breed them during the summer months.)

                                         Breeding Ethos

I do not breed intensively  - there are often gaps between matings and first litters take priority. I also breed slowly, as it is my hobby - not a business. The health of my cavies takes precedence and they have their first mating at 8 months old to ensure they can produce the best offspring (in terms of survival and health). Our 'expecting' girls live in the house with us - we don't leave them outside in hutches during this special time! As the babies are all born in the house, they experience 'life' right from the start, and also get very well handled. I breed responsibly and each pairing is intricately planned to ensure the best offspring. I don't see the point of risking pregnancy - if you don't wish to keep the babies! So please be patient!

We only breed Lunkarya to Lunkarya to improve characteristics and purity of this breed. Most of our Lunkarya's are derived from Carmen & Iris Langstadtler's 'Von den Knopfaugen' stud. Hours are spent to choose the best matings - harshness, density and curl being the main factors. We do not breed in quantity and may occasionally have some available. We are only aiming for the best quality, healthy babies with the harshest coats. I expect to have a broad range of colours, although I do love the chocolates(!), as the coat itself is the most important characteristic of the Lunkarya.

Due to such a high volume of interest, I now run a waiting list, so you are most welcome to email me regarding what you are looking for.
