Kalusha's Cavies

Specialist Breeder of Lunkarya & Peruvians

Departed Cavies

This page honours the memories of the Cavies that have left us to go to new homes or that have crossed over the rainbow bridge.

'Kalusha's Nimbus' (Now living at a pet home)

L3                      Sire: 'Kalusha's Gambit '                                                         Dam: 'Fantaskia's Charmed'

4 month old black, cream and white lunkarya boar. Very cute chap who has one blue eye. He is Gambit's son and is expecting a litter with Jambolini. Update: He now lives with his brother, Ninjo, with Kerrie.

'Kalusha's Julliard Symphony' & her 5 still-born babies

9 month old black, cream and white Peruvian sow. Daughter to Fancyface (whom she is a mini clone!) and 'Helmond's Jersey' from Holland (Choc peru boar). Matured really nicely, with perfect rosettes.

Sadly, Julliard passed away on the 14th May following her 5-stillborn litter. Really gutted and wish she was still among us.

Chinchi's Herbie (now living at Mahogany Stud)

L4                     Sire: 'Armano von den Knopfaugen'                                                       Dam: 'Chinchi's Aimie'

1 1/2 year old red and white Lunkarya boar imported from Holland. Littermate to Hollie. Recently had a litter with Curly.

When I originally imported these lunkarya from Holland, Herbie was supposed to go to Caroline, but last minute change of plan meant he came here. Update: Now living with Caroline at Mahogany Stud

'Kalusha's Truffle'  18.09.03 - 24.02.10 (R.I.P 'Old girl')

6 years and 5 months old Lemon agouti, cream and white Rex. Daughter to Fuzzle and Winnie. Regretfully, she was never bred from. She was always happy to run over and say hi in exchange for some treats! Very easy-going and lovely natured. Born a few days after her half-sister Mahogany. Sadly, she has a mammary tumour which was being monitored, it was an unforgettable day when she had to be put to sleep.

We had been using chopped straw bedding for over 2years. Suddenly in the space of 2 months four boars all died of the same symptoms. The vets were unsure exactly what caused the spat - whether it was a virus, the environment or simply the cold weather running their immune system down. We changed almost everything, including the bedding, so we hope we can prevent the same thing occuring in the future. It is heart-breaking as they were my best boars.

'Chinchi's Cooper'

L100                      Sire: 'Tabsaco vom Hook'                                                         Dam: 'Jazzy de Glazendeur'

Just over 2 year old red and white Lunkarya boar. Imported from Holland. Won Best Lunkarya at the 2008 ECCC show in Dordrecht, with a score of 94/100. Gorgeous boy with a super harsh coat! He has excellent chops and frontals.

'Wintersun les Jardins d'Alysson'

L2                         Sire: 'Pluuster's Shamalow'                                               Dam: 'Zest of Lemon les Jardins d'Alysson'

2 1/2 year old cream and white Lunkarya boar, imported from Belgium. A Lilac Carrier. Despite only being an L2, he has one of the best 'super harsh' coats I have felt! Always does well at the local pet classes, although regretfully, I never entered him into the NEV classes. He is very gentle natured and father to 'Hope' and 'Isolde'.

'Kalusha's Crème de la Crème' (R.I.P)

Nearly 2 year old cream and white peruvian. He is son to Theo and Sundae. He has excellent texture and density. A really handsome chap who is brilliant like his father! Will hopefully be used for stud duty next year for the first time! Has won Best Adult's Pet twice.

*My superstar sadly passed away on 28th December. I am so fortunate to have known this little chap and so sad I never got round to breeding him**

'Kalusha's Caesar' RIP: 18/03/08 - 28/12/09

L3         Sire: 'Yspahan Von den Knopfaugen'                                        Dam:'Rich Girl les Jardins d'Alysson'

1 1/2 year old lilac and white Lunkarya boar. Son to Yspahan and Rich-Girl. He lost quite a lot of facial hair as a baby. He has good harshness and lovely colours! Now expecting his first litter with Hollie.

*We suddenly lost Caesar on the 28th December. He will be passed on through his offspring with Hollie*

'Yspahan von den Knopfaugen' RIP: 27/09/06-26/05/09

L100                    Sire: 'Yellowstone von den Knopfaugen'           Dam: 'Fawina Sou von den Knopfaugen'

Yspahan came to us from 'Les Jardin's d'Alysson' in Belgium during September 2007. He was originally bred by Iris Langstadtler of the 'von den Knopfaugen' stud and was our main stud boar here. He was laid-back and really loved attention. He was always a large chap! Before his untimely departure, he had fathered 5 litters here not to mention the ones previously in Belgium. His Grandson, Gambit, is now one of our main stud boars so he still lives on through his now great grandchildren.
